Written by an anonymous long-term resident of Twin Oaks, a well established income sharing large scale commune in the US. This is a realistic breakdown of how hierarchy exists, is struggled with, and exists again, even in projects that are commonly held to be successfully anti-authoritarian. We here at LBC publish this not in the spirit of denigrating such projects (obviously, we are trying to do such projects ourselves), more with the intent to deal realistically with who we all are, and what we are actually capable of, rather than pretending that if we just try hard enough, we can make rules that overcome all the crap that surrounds us every day.
