Wikipedia says…
John Yates is an English graphic designer, and from 1990 to 1999 was the owner of Allied Recordings (now defunct). Yates is most well known for the numerous album covers he has done for bands such as Alkaline Trio, Melvins, Antischism, The Promise Ring, Dead Kennedys, Jawbreaker, Crass, and NoMeansNo, among many others. In addition, Yates worked at Alternative Tentacles for 10 years, and now does graphic design for AK Press, PM Press, and G7 Welcoming Committee Records, as well as running his own graphic design company, Stealworks.
I say…
I met John Yates back in the late 1980’s at the Alternative Tentacles office above Rough Trade in Kings Cross. We shared a mutual love of political punk rock and Active ended up financing a reprint of his Punchline COP magazine and became the European DIY distributor of his Alllied Recordings.
Warfear is typical of one of John’s financially unsuccesful but wonderfully worthy productions. I found a box of them recently and can find no record of what they originally cost. They are for sure unavailable anywhere else! Grab one before they become collectable! – they’ve also been around a longish time and aren’t in pristine condition.
